Please do not give one cent to The Humane Society of the United States, a.k.a. HSUS.
While their late night ads - showing faces of sick and abused animals set to mournful background music - might jerk at your heart and purse strings, they absolutely enrage me.
Why? Because I know a negligible amount of the millions they raise, actually goes towards food, medical and shelter for abandoned animals.
If you really care about animals, please look up the animal shelter closest to you, walk in and visit with the veterinarians, staff and volunteers, find out exactly what they need, then donate directly to them.
Check back with them periodically. Knowing your charity helped make the puppies smile and kittens purr will make you smile and purr.
